YOUR WEEKEND GETAWAY GUIDE TO SUDBURY, ONTARIO
Recently, I visited Sudbury, Ontario for my first time for a much needed weekend getaway.
With the help of receiving many recommendations from my friends on Instagram on where to visit, and what to do, our trip to Sudbury was a great one. These recommendations helped us so much, that I wanted to create an all in one guide for you to enjoy to help make your next visit to Sudbury the best it can be.
So let’s start with my absolute favourite thing to do on a getaway…
Going out to experience new restaurants!
Drinks:
IF YOU ENJOY COFFEE, VISIT :
Kuppajo Espresso Bar.
If you’re a coffee lover , and are looking to start your day the best way possible, visit Kuppajo Espresso Bar. You will also love this cafe 10x more if you have a love for plants. (If you are confused about what I mean now, just trust me because this will make a lot more sense after your visit).
IF YOU ENJOY BEER, VISIT :
46 North Brewing.
At this brewery they specialize in tasty beers and hard seltzers. 46 North Brewing offers a rotating menu that changes every week offering new or rereleases of beer.
IF YOU ENJOY COCKTAILS, VISIT:
The Alibi Room.
Great vibes, decor, and most importantly cocktails. The Alibi Room makes the perfect spot to visit for after dinner drinks with your loved one, or a group of friends or family.Crosscut Distillery.
Crosscut Distillery is a 100% grain-to-glass distillery sourcing grains and botanicals from all across Northern Ontario and crafts one of a kind vodka, gin and whisky.
Here you can enjoy tasty cocktails, and tasting flights.
Dining:
Overall, my favourite restaurant we visited during our experience was Wander Food & Wine. Wander is a chic, and globally inspired wine bar (also Sudbury’s ONLY wine bar) that has a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Wander offers tapas style and shareable dishes for food, with a menu that changes each week. Their wine list is very extensive to help ensure you find the perfect wine to enjoy during your visit, and they also offer a cocktails and beer menu as well. Overall, we had an incredible experience at Wander Food & Wine.
Other restaurants we visited during our experience that I would recommend are:
- The Kouzzina.
The Kouzzina is a Greek and Italian restaurant that also offers delicious food and cocktails. If you have a sweet tooth, and want to try some of the best cheesecake you will want to save room for their Creme Brûlée Cheesecake. Our favourite cocktails at The Kouzzina were Fire in the Tropics (tequila based) and their Speciality Gin and Tonics.
- Peppi Panini.
We visited Peppi Panini for lunch, and I had one of the best Chicken Parmesan sandwiches that I’ve had in a long time. I absolutely love a bit of spice in my meals, so the server recommended adding Banana Peppers to my sandwich which made it even more enjoyable.
Activities:
The Big Nickel.
Have you ever heard of or seen the Big Nickel?
Well, before this visit to Sudbury, I didn’t even know The Big Nickel existed.
The Big Nickel is Sudbury’s iconic attraction, and is an EXACT replica for the 1951 Canadian nickel. I also learned that this is the WORLDS LARGEST depiction of a coin. The Big Nickel is located at: 122 Big Nickel Road and they provide up to an hour of free parking which should give you plenty of time to take photos, and enjoy your experience.Walk in Bell Park Boardwalk
After approximately a 5 hour road trip from Niagara to Sudbury, our bodies needed some much needed movement. One of the recommendations we received was enjoying a walk in Bell Park Boardwalk so that’s exactly what we did. The path that we took also lead us behind the old St. Joseph hospital which is the canvas for Canada’s largest mural (again, something I had no idea existed in Sudbury).
Our weekend getaway in Sudbury seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye. After visiting so many great local restaurants, and enjoying so many new experiences, this was definitely a great way for us to enjoy one of the last weekends of summer.
If YOU have any Sudbury recommendations, please feel free to share them in the comments below so I can check them out on our next visit.
